Are all sessions in-person or is telehealth available?

While TMS sessions are in person, the vast majority of appointments are conducted over telehealth. There are clinical circumstances and regulations around controlled substance prescribing where an in-person appointment is more appropriate. We work with patients and families around these situations. Please note that we are only able to conduct telehealth sessions in states where we are licensed.

How does communication work in between sessions?

At Fermata, we recognize that most of life happens outside of sessions and so we are able to communicate via secure text messaging or phone calls regarding urgent and logistical matters. We also recognize that accessing emergency services and psychiatric hospitalizations, while life-saving in some circumstances, can be life destroying when turned to in a reflexive, knee-jerk fashion. That is why we prioritize being available when crises arise to work collaboratively around getting help that is actually helpful.

Can I use my insurance at Fermata?

Dr.Muir and Dr.MacMillan are in network with Cigna and Medicare, but not all services (e.g. accelerated TMS) are covered by insurance. In parallel, we advocate at the national level around increasing mental health parity and accessibility to quality mental health care. We hope to in the future be able to work more in an aligned way with more payers and stakeholders. Meanwhile, we do provide "superbills" upon request for out-of-network reimbursement for covered services if your plan has this benefit (e.g. a PPO plan). We are happy to provide guidance around plan selection.

What forms of payment does the practice accept?

We accept all major credit cards, HSA/FSA cards, checks, cash, wire transfers/ACH payments and even cryptocurrency!

Are you hiring and do you work with trainees?

We are happy to partner closely with therapists interested in working in a collaborative model but are not hiring for staff therapists at this time to work directly at the practice. We are able to serve as supervisors for trainees or those with provisional licenses, however, depending on the circumstances. If you are trained as a deep TMS Technician or have a strong interest in getting this training, we are looking for more part-time technicians to work with our patients.
